What is a good camera fit for me?

I'm looking to spend no more than $350 (cheaper the better!!) on a used camera. I tinker in photography, but not too much.. so maybe an SLR isn't necessary. I would mostly use it for photographing my artwork, hanging out with friends, etc. But I do want the image quality to be very decent. Suggestions?
