When Japan ATTACKED and brutalized China, what was the REST of Asia doing?

Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines, just to name a few. In WW2, shouldn't they have been helping the other good guys? What were they doing - reading manga? Usually the righteous UNITE in the face of terrible evil, not fall apart doing nothing while their women are raped...
