What to do about a threatening text message?

OK so i know only the fist name of this person. i have the phone number. i dont know much about them other than that. They sent me a very vivd text saying they were going to kill me. Is it even worth going to the police about if it was only one text? Can they even get in trouble for it? If i do report it will the cops just document it and foget about it, or will they find where he lives and charge him? I reside in state of minnesota if it makes a difference legally. Please dont reply if ur just gunna guess at the answer.
