Mouse and Touch Pad Clicks Unrecognizable?

I'll get right to the problem. Obviously, as stated in the title, neither the mouse nor touch pad buttons work. I can move the cursor around but am not allowed to left click after a certain time. Right clicking usually works. First I installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and it was all fine a dandy then roughly 30 minutes later it began. I tried a complete wipe and re-install. (After some tinkering and driver checking yadda yadda.) This did not work. I then installed Mandriva. The install worked fine until about half way through the install the mouses left button stopped working. I've tried 2 different mice. (Wireless Logitech M215 and a Wired Logitech M-UAE96 both optical) Along with this the touch pad button did not either. Just like when I used 10.04. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1420. 32 bit. Oh also while the mouse would work I activated dwell click this for some odd reason did not work either. The mouse filled with colour then nothing! Any help, suggestions, anything? Please?
